Tuesday with Dorie: Grandma’s All Occasion Sugar Cookies

This week’s Tuesday’s with Dorie recipe was Grandma’s All Occasion Sugar Cookies. You can find the full recipe on Kuchenlatein’s site or by purchasing the book Baking: From My Home to Yours by Dorie Greenspan.

This recipe frustrated me. The recipe itself is very simple but I couldn’t manage to transfer the cuts outs. They practically melted in my hand. I tried chilling the dough. I tried freezing the dough. It just didn’t work. Finally, I rolled it all into a little log and made the slice and bake cookies. And while not as beautiful, they tasted just as good.

These cookies have Bo’s seal of approval!

  1. Ok. I’ll admit it. I keep these extra un-iced sugar cookies around and give pieces of them to Seven while changing his diaper. I can’t keep him still – and these cookies work like magic! Gross? Maybe, but it gets the job done!
The slicing method seems to have worked well for you…oh, and good luck with the IVF..I hope you get a Daisy to go with your Bo. 🙂

  2. My favorite sugar cookie recipe does the same thing. I usually line my cookie sheets with parchment, roll the dough out on it, cut the cookies out, and then peal the excess dough away. It is a major pain, but the cookies are so good it’s worth it.

  3. slice and bakes are just so much easier. I just turned my apartment thermostat down so they wouldn’t melt 🙂 Sneaky, huh?
